Dear ZedTears. Not Just A Pretty Face #1 By Tambu Geeray

She wakes up very early in the morning everyday to cook breakfast for the family while the world sleeps, while the man of the house still coils deep inside the duvet dreaming away, probably having a beautiful dream because dreams they say mostly besiege us when dawn approaches.
With the kind of renewed energy that only morning dew gives (my grand mom told me so) she sweeps, cleans, bathes the kids when they’re awake, clothes and feeds them, then gets them ready for school.
For the man of the house, she fixes his meals just as he loves them, sometimes she goes an extra mile to give it a little more than he’d expect with that midas touch of hers.
While at the breakfast table, she comes up with bright ideas and makes reasonable contributions whenever talks concerning the family are thrown therein. Even when she does not totally agree with some of the suggestions and opinions raised by the man of the house, she politely leads him into understanding why it should or shouldn’t be done this way or that way.
After a few smiles and laughs, they passionately kiss and wish each other an awesome day at work. A daily routine of theirs.
At work she goes about the business of the day doing all she can for the success and growth of all involved with such diligence that leaves you wondering if she ever gets tired or breaks down. Of course, she gets tired and also breaks down.
She’s made of flesh and bone like the rest of us.
But she’s got a magic wand, her smiles. She lets her beautiful smiles do the concealment.
She’s a bank manager in one of the A’ list banks in the country with lots of expectations and demands from both her employers, some of the employees and the teeming disgruntled account owners with the bank. She respectfully deals with these people everyday without a sign of displeasure even beyond her training.
But when she’s alone, she thinks of her life outside the purview of a bank manager, she thinks of her first and masters’ degrees both in Geology lying fallow in a box inside a closet back home. She thinks deep and sometimes hopes it wasn’t a waste of time taking the training that got her working in a financial institution in the first place…
She thinks of her second child whose headmistress has been complaining of under performance both in class and in the last examinations. How about her first child who recently had her first menstrual experience, meaning an extra eye has to be kept on her.
Then there’s the issue of a young lady who keeps calling at terrible hours claiming to be a secretary to the man of the house… She creates a personal “To Do” list and deals with all these one after the other like women deal with blackheads on their faces. She deals with lots of other challenges not mentioned above.
After an energy draining day at work, she rushes home thinking of the evening meal while driving. She thinks about how to get there on time amidst the unrepentant traffic, she worries about how to beat it and get home to get dinner prepared and served in good time before it’s dusk (coupled with the dieting demands of this this century.)
She’s indeed not just a pretty face. She’s a mother, a wife, a sister, an aunt, a lover of God, a virtuous woman, a builder and keeper of the home.
And to all the “Not Just Pretty Faces” out there, be you a teacher, a banker, a doctor/nurse, a lawyer, a mechanic, a cab driver, a farmer, a shop owner/keeper, a tailor/fashion designer, a hairdresser/stylist, a broadcaster, a reporter both in the print and electronic media, a musician, a professional dancer, a pilot, a caterer/restaurateur, too many to mention here, we honour you with all our hearts.
We respect you without blemish.
You have all got everything it takes to be the enigmas that you are.
Keep doing all you have been doing. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Tambu Geeray featured in my second post POTENTIAL. He sent me this beautiful piece that he wrote, dedicating it to all the amazing women that hold the aces which we mostly under appreciate. I couldn’t keep this piece to myself so I thought I’d share it here with his permission. Keep an eye for more fantastic write up from Tambu Geeray. RESPECT!

Dear ZedTears. Diversity = [What it means to me]

I was asked what diversity meant to me, so I thought I’d put this 0.17 second clip together.
Diversity to me is about embrace, the embrace of different race, ethnic backgrounds, gender or culture.
I have represented this by putting together different coloured pencils as a visual representation of different backgrounds from race, gender, culture or ethnicity, and certain keywords that reflect diversity from varied context.
I was thought to flip the word ‘Me’ to ‘We’ in design practice as collaboration, communication, working together as a team takes us farther than in isolation. Similar can be applied to diversity and other areas of life.
Diversity = Embrace. Diversity = We.

Dear ZedTears. Fear

I was watching some video clips on YouTube when I came across Zach Williams’ Fear Is a Liar , I was completely hooked.
The lyrics were powerful, touching upon the life’s of three individuals in the video on how fear affected each differently.
In not too distant context, fear can be crippling and can hinder progress. The fear of failure, fear of trying or taking risk deprives us of certain opportunities and overcoming road blocks.
More so, creativity is born out of risk taking and mostly flipping the script. Some risk are worth taking to get to the next level. Life’s biggest risk is not taking one. For new chapters, pages must be flipped.
Overcoming fear is the beginning of excellence and accomplishments.
Cast that fear in the fire, for fear truly is a liar.

Dear ZedTears. The Mind, The Body

I have heard people say things like ‘the mind plays tricks’ and I do wonder if this is true.
There are many cases of the ‘imposter syndrome’ affecting intrinsic abilities, performances, downgrading personal achievements, and feeling like a fraud. Could this be a case of the mind playing tricks?
I read a while back that ‘Love in the mind is eternal’. Is this true? How about the growing number of divorce cases in the modern age, where did love go?
Many superior teams have been well beaten by lesser oppositions in sporting competitions. Is it a case of David defeating Goliath or a case of mental strength and focus not being right or present on the day. Was the mind absent?
“Success is focusing on what we put our minds to consistently” _Tony Robbins
Tony Robbins makes reference to the mind affecting our state and well being, and like his quote will suggest; we improve. Then again I wonder, why will the mind suggest that all the success you’ve been able to achieve isn’t particularly good enough. Or maybe, you actually did not solely achieve it as in the case of the imposter syndrome. What really is the mind up to here?
The mind controls self confidence, expertise, preparation, character, discipline, extra ordinary performances and more.
“Learning never exhaust the mind” Leonardo Da Vinci say. Study about the mind seems ongoing. Will the mind continue to present itself like a minefield or will it indicate where it resides, because a thorough question could be put to the mind if it really does play tricks… Does it?

Dear ZedTears, I Am NwB

Having read my posts ‘I AM’ and ‘POTENTIAL’ which featured Tambu Geeray in my ‘Hello Quotes’ category, NwB was kind to feature in my ‘Dear ZedTears’ category. Dear ZedTears is centered around being our own super hero; a reflection of ourselves looking in the mirror, learning from our mistakes, our struggles and overcoming limiting beliefs. This is the first in this category and hopefully many will follow.
NwB is an up-and-coming music producer in the UK. He shares an insight into his musical influences and his journey to music production. His beats in all the years have featured the likes of Youngs Teflon, IYKZ, TopLinerz, Moelogo, Young Marv, DLORD, Fix Dot’M, DQ, Jaja Soze, Toni Tetuila, Fem Fel, Young Mad B, Simon Pann, G-Styl, PDK, Ghetts, Buck, Infa-Red, Diamond, A.D.E, Smiler, Rugged Man, Jesz Unsigned, Karma, MP (419 Squad).
NwB in his words:
Well, as a child I always wanted to be superman, but when growing up I somehow tumbled into music and I haven’t looked back since. I haven’t any regrets about reneging on my superman ambitions, for it is unbecoming for a sexy young man of my stature to don those tight blue, red & yellow suits.
Fortunately for me; and thanks to my family we had different genres of music thumping through our speakers, to my rocker neighbour’s disgust, of course. For better or worse, I had the opportunity to subject my eardrums to the rebellion fervor of Fela Kuti and Madonna, the drum ridden sounds of Sunny Ade, the cheerful ditties of Cyndi Lauper and the heart-warming Motown collection.
Music is still very much a hobby I enjoy immensely, all else is merely incidental. After a few false starts here and there I finally buckled down and focused on production, and it’s paying dividends.
As a producer nothing beats the feeling of pure magic when hi-hats, bass, snares and drums unite in a harmonious marriage. Some of the words used to describe my style of production are, “epic”, “harmonious” “emotional”. I have worked with several artists, some of whom you may already know, some you will eventually get to know and admittedly those you will never get to know.
Some people are born stars, some have stardom thrust upon them and some work their polyester socks off to become stars. WHO BE YOU?
I’m not pompous enough yet, to refer to myself in third person. Give me some time. *wink wink*
Below is a simple breakdown of my musical influences;
1. Air – Drums: The beating of the drums resonates through the air, which gives it the sound you hear.
2. Water – Dancing: The body and the earth are made up of mostly water (approx. 70%) Just as wind makes water move, so also does music make the body to dance.
3. Fire – Rappin’, singin’ or poetry: We as Humans have a burning in our lungs, which is made from the combustion of Oxygen. This releases CO2. Anything that is hot has fire in it. So when a person sings or rap, he/ she exhales heated air i.e literally they breathe fire!
4. Earth – Grafitti glyphs: In ancient Egypt, we wrote & painted on the walls of the temples, just like we do today on the streets. It is written in stone, people!
5. Ether – Knowledge: We as a people have forgotten who we are. This, knowledge, is the essential element (5th) needed to unite the above four. Without knowledge, they are meaningless.
